Out My Backdoor

Explorations in my Local Woodland

It’s the classic story of ‘Covid forced me to explore my local area’. It’s true though. At least for the start of the project. I love discovering new places, but have often considered my own neck of the woods to be ‘boring’. Somehow travelling to arguably more exciting areas was higher on the priority list.

Realising the areas potential started slowly. I wasn’t finding compositions that fitted the mould of how I expected woodland photography to look. Then came the realisation that I could interpret the scenes and present the images I a way that was entirely personal to me. The focus shifted to storytelling and also the experience of seeing the landscape evolve through the years. Furthermore, it helped me feel comfortable with staying local sometimes and not having to rush to the other side of the country when I didn’t have to.

Over the last few years, I have built up quite a collection of work from around where I live. One of which is my all time favourite!
