Harris & Lewis
Adventures on the outer edge of Scotland
Whenever I come to the Outer Hebrides it feels like I’m in another country. It’s wild; worlds apart from the usual hustle of the mainland. Harris & Lewis are literally the outer reaches of the UK. Standing on the west coast, there is nothing between you and Greenland except the expanse of the North Atlantic.
Not only is this place remote, but it’s also ancient. Much of it is made up of Lewisian Gneiss; some of the oldest exposed rocks on the world. Despite the resilience of the rocks, they are constantly battered by waves, and eventually will succumb to the elements. Earth processes in motion and an almost endless well of stories to tell as a landscape photographer.
